Scott Glasser joined the Arizona State University School of Music, Dance, & Theatre in 2022 as Faculty Associate for Mariachi and was Director of Orchestras & Mariachi at Marcos de Niza High School (2012-2023). Honored by the Arizona Music Educators Association, he received the O.M. Hartsell Excellence in Music Teaching Award (2023). Previous to relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, Mr. Glasser held the position of Director of Orchestras & Strings, grades 4-12, in the Liberty Central School District in the Catskill Mountains of New York State (2007-2012). He completed both his undergraduate and graduate coursework in Music Education at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Mr. Glasser is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Music Learning & Teaching at Arizona State University under the mentorship of Dr. Margaret Schmidt.
Mr. Glasser's research interests include mariachi education and pedagogy, teacher identity development and evolution, and string pedagogy. In addition to his role at Arizona State University, he has taught music education courses at the State University of New York at Fredonia, the Hartt School of Music, and the VanderCook College of Music as well as presented at the American String Teachers Association National Conference, Society for Music Teacher Education Symposium, and Arizona Music Educators Association In-Service Conference. Mr. Glasser is passionate about both teaching and performing in his daily life. His student ensembles have performed at the Main Plaza of Lincoln Center in New York City, SUNY Fredonia, the United Nations, the State Capitol Building in Austin, Texas, and St. Malachy's Chapel in Times Square. During his time at Marcos de Niza High School, the Marcos de Niza Chamber Orchestra performed the National Anthem for the Phoenix Suns (2015) and was the only orchestra selected as performers for the 2019 ESSA Conference in Tucson, Arizona. The Marcos de Niza Mariachi Ensembles were chosen as Honored Performance Ensembles at the Arizona Music Educators Association State In-Service Conference (2020, 2023), opened for the Phoenix Symphony (2022), and presented/performed at the American String Teachers Association National Conference (2023) in Orlando, Florida. Professionally, Mr. Glasser performs regularly as a violinist and vocalist. He is currently 1st Violinist for the Aletheia String Quartet, an ensemble of string music educators dedicated to serving and giving back to the community through its Homestead Concert Series, and regularly performs as a violinist in the pit orchestras for Mesa Community College's Music Theatre Program. While residing in New York, he was a founding member of the Téssera String Quartet of Middletown and frequently appeared with the Greater Newburgh Symphony, SUNY Orange Community Orchestra, the Nesin Cultural Arts Faculty Quartet and the Sullivan County Community Chorus. |
